Black Walnut 2 YEAR GRAFTED TREES -PRICE INCLUDES SHIPPING

$100.00

Our selections of Black Walnut grafts will grow and change over time. We are in the process of establishing our “Mother Trees”. Once we get a them grafted and growing in the ground, there may be a few years where that variety is unavailable as they need to grow large enough to produce wood for grafting. Walnuts are the hardest plant for us to graft, hence the higher cost and limited availability. Hopefully we will develop better techniques over time for producing them.

We choose to grow both newer varieties and time tested ones. All of them are thin shelled for easier cracking and nut meat removal, with a high percentage of kernel. Some crack out in halves! Our favorites so far are ‘Thomas Meyers’ (AKA ‘HAY’), ‘EMMA KAY’ and ‘Sparks 147’. ‘Weschcke’ is a very vigorous producer of medium sized nut, this one is the most vigorous grower here, so far!. THERE ARE A FEW HYBRIDS TUCKED IN HERE THIS YEAR , AND ONE HEARTNUT GRAFT OF ‘CW1’

Walnuts are fast growers in the right location, rich moist soils and full sun. A grafted plant could start to bear nuts in as little as 3-5 years , where a seedling tree might take 5-15. A big time savings.
