Black Walnut seedlings from selected cultivars

10.00

All of our seedlings are from grown from seed collected from named cultivars. These are trees known for large sized and easier cracking. Wild Black Walnuts are delicious, but the shells can be very hard to crack and the nut meats are often trapped in the shells by the convolutions inside. While it should be understood that heterozygosity means that the traits of easy cracking and large nuts are not necessarily passed down to the offspring, some old timey nut growers note that often the desirable characteristics are inherited in nut tree seedlings more frequently than, say, apples. In the pics here you have Sparks 147 with the long point, a fairly recent cultivar and Ohio, a much older one, along with a rare tri-lobed Ohio nut.
