Grafted Butterhearts (aka Buartnuts)

$75.00

Butterhearts, (or Buartnuts, we don’t like this name very much) are crosses between Heartnut and Butternut. They have fabulous hybrid vigor. The nuts can resemble a Butternut, or be more similar to a Heartnut, but usually not as smooth-shelled. They are delicious! The ones we have cracked out are generally easier then your average Black Walnut, and sometimes as easy as good Heartnuts. We found some very nice grafted selections at John Hershey’s old Nursery in Downingtown Pennsylvania, these are prefaced as JWH in the name. The USDA had a couple in their collection. And we found a beautiful huge one outside Ercildoun, Pennsylvania, which we are calling “Buck Run”.

HEARTNUT TREES CAN NOT BE SHIPPED TO MO, KS, IN, MI, IA, NE, MN
