'LIU' is a red-leaved seedling of 'Honglizi', another chestnut with red leaves. Seedlings of Liu often make about 20 percent very red seedlings, however, it can vary from 0 to 30-40%.

We are in love with the red leaved chestnuts, not just because they are beautiful foliage , but because the burs are red and green like Christmas balls and the nuts are delicious.

These 2 year old trees are quite red, and red enough to most likely make good red burs. Not many available this year, lots on deck for next year,,
