Black Walnut is one of our favorite trees here at Perfect Circle Farm. Most cultivars are very hardy and vigorous. Because these selections are thin-shelled and easy cracking, it is far easier to get to the tasty kernels inside.

The timber selection is from 2 seedling trees that originated at St. Lawrence Nursery in Pottsdam, NY, a very cold place. Bill McKently sent Timber Form Seed that have developed into truly magnificent plants. Gorgeous- straight up form, great branch angles and excellent nuts. These trees are from two of the best combination nut/timber trees out of 1000 planted.

“Weschcke’ black walnut is a beast here . It’s the largest tree on our farm even though it was only grafted in 2015. It produces buckets and buckets of nuts. The nuts are thin shelled and easy cracking.
